Artist Expedition 2016: Madrid - Casablanca

Sound Development City Logo

Location

Madrid and Casablanca, Spain

Duration

September 6 - 25, 2016

Background
Sound Development is a non-commercial, independent and privately funded cultural initiative based in Zurich. Sound Development is a platform for promotion of, networking of and exchange between artistic and cultural creators. They’re interested in alternative forms of art and cultural promotion as well as in how creative endeavours can be supported.

Through the experimental format of Sound Development City, Sound Development aims to give artists the opportunity to realize trans-disciplinary projects. For Sound Development, personal encounters and collaborative work play a key role in developing new ideas – away from academic or institutional settings, Sound Development offers open space to let the unexpected happen and encourage a “culture in the open”.

Sound Development City is a three-week expedition to two annually changing cities for artists from all disciplines and from around the world. The 5th edition takes place in Madrid and Casablanca

Residency
Sound Development City is looking for independent and dedicated project proposals that are to be tested and put into practice during a three-week journey to Madrid and Casablanca in September 2016. The artist expedition is a laboratory for the exploration of creative strategies, bold visions and forms of expressions.

The first seven days are spent together in
Madrid and the last seven days in Casablanca. The days in-between are to be used for individual travelling from here to there. This journey must be undertaken on the land route and is intended as an integral part of the project work, the research or the working process.

Sound Development City seeks for projects, concepts and work theses which
  • are research-based, challenging and willing to take a risk.
  • benefit from being on the road.
  • probe urban environment as sites of both playfulness and social involvement.
There is no thematic focus. Submissions can be sound-related, or not.

The selected artists must agree to take part in the expedition throughout its entire duration. Public presentations or performances are integral to the program. They can be initiated by the artists, or by the team and in collaboration with fellow organizations in Madrid and Casablanca. Following the end of the expedition, the participating artists will collaborate with Sound Development City on a printed documentation. The works produced during the expedition belong to the artists.
