IB Theatre Arts Instructor for Theatre Professionals

Duration & Commitment
  • 2 year commitment to TPPL
  • Part-time commitment
  • 2 - 3 school-days per week of teaching in-class
  • 3-6 hours per week of your own planning 
  • Monthly internal meetings with the school
  • 2 evenings of peer-sharings per month
  • Pre-planned inductions, workshops, trainings 
  • 2 - 3 trips a year to other cities ranging from 2 days to 1 week (to develop your own practice and/or take your students on field-trip workshops)

Background
From drama classes at one school in 2008 to a company that founded the Drama School, Mumbai, and has delivered drama to children at over 20 schools across 8 cities, TPPL has come a long way and is currently bringing drama to young learners in 3 different cities. 

Their company is driven by a desire to create a better working environment for theatre and creating opportunities for work where none existed before. In over six years of work, nearly fifty people have joined their team as drama instructors and they continue to regularly get to do what they love best, and make a living off it through work with the Theatre Professionals. 

The Young People’s Theatre Programme developed out of their experience in the field of drama pedagogy and the ardent desire to bring all that drama has to offer into the lives of children. This programme is designed to bring the best of drama and theatre techniques to the field of teaching. To put it simply, they use theatre as a medium to get children to think better, express better and create better. They often work as a counter to the rigours of the academic system and 
believe in giving children a chance to express themselves and approach their learning environments differently.

Role & Responsibilities
As they understand the academic aspects of the IB Theatre Arts Diploma Program will be new to most applicants for this job, they will provide extensive learning and teaching support for the following, however as part of your job you will be expected to learn and execute the following: 
  1. Plan and break down how theatre is made and performance is created for young adults to understand
  2. Learn how to plan a learning journey for students from your own knowledge of Theatre Practice
  3. Understand the IB Philosophy and Guidelines and adapt the content you teach to these
  4. Learn and acquire useful methodologies for teaching and classroom control that can provide for a productive learning environment
  5. Learn ways to get learners to develop their own theatrical ideas
  6. Learn to structure lesson plans that will get students to think for themselves, with depth and the ability for critical thinking
  7. Cultivate the student to become an active spectator of theatre
  8. Encourage students to have original thought, ideas and expression
  9. Be committed to a batch of students for the entire two-year term of the diploma program

Prerequisites
The desire to work as part of a team dedicated to learning, a drive to learn, improve and make the most of countless opportunities and a hunger for the new is definitely recommended. In addition to that to be a part of their endeavour you must:
  • Have had formal training or experience working in theatre
  • Have had formal training or experience working with children and education
  • Be open to exploring world theatre practices
  • Be in touch with the current theatre practice of the specific city of teaching
  • Be in touch with various networks for theatre, teaching, and opportunities for your students

Compensation
  • Determined by your experience & the extent of your time commitment
  • Usual range is 18,000/- to 25,000/- per month for your part time commitment
