Background
Since the inception of Milaap Open Fellowship Program, they have supported over 2400 projects and initiatives from across India, ranging from anti-trafficking and human rights to sports and medical care for children. Milaap are committed to the goal of serving as many communities as we can with an impeccable focus on accountability, transparency, and engagement. This means that every project on Milaap is verified for authenticity and reviewed before going live. The progress updates are posted by the project owners and our community to keep the donors updated. Now, Milaap wants to take it one step further, and offer fellows a chance to make the process even better and more transparent.

Milaap is India's leading crowd funding platform for personal and social causes. Our community of funders come from 120 countries across the world, having supported nearly 50,000 projects, impacting 200,000 lives across India.

I am in DNA of India is a Hyper Local news platform run by Zee Digital Corporation Limited. The platform focuses on stories of change makers, social entrepreneurs, local heroes, development issues, local-level civic and under-reported issues. The platform seeks to go back to the original form of community journalism that informs, empowers, educates and makes local bodies and constituency representatives accountable and accessible.

Accepted Fellows will be announced on May 31, 2016. Fellows will start with a five-day training  fromJuly 1- 7, 2016 at Milaap headquarters in Bangalore. Editors and writers from the I am in DNA of India and Milaap team will cover their models, the tools, the on-ground understanding of current projects and the resources fellows will need during the Fellowship Program and also impart relevant skills to maximize the time dedicated by fellows to this program. This will also give fellows an opportunity to meet and interact with the teams.

Role & Responsibilities
  • Meet the individuals/organisations/groups behind the projects to document stories, get pictures and testimonials from them.
  • Listen to their stories and share your updates with the Milaap Community. 
  • Help Milaap Campaign Managers to smoothen the process of campaign creation
  • Work around certain guidelines set in place for various types of projects. 
  • Take ownership of the projects assigned to you in your locality/city and review their progress.
  • While meeting - understand:
    • Champion
    • Organization/hospital/NGO
    • The cause - how legitimate it is
    • Who is the beneficiary
    • Learn more about the break-up of funds
    • Is the break-up of funds legitimate
    • How have the funds been utilized till now
    • How are the funds to be utilized
  • You will aim to keep the donors updated and engaged with the projects they've supported.  
  • Reach out to potential partners and familiarize them with crowdfunding processes.
  • Explore ways in which the organisations' projects can be setup on the Milaap Open platform.
  • Write an inspiring/ positive/ innovative/ impactful story once a week from the projects for www.dnaindia.com/locality

Prerequisites
  • Impeccable written and oral communication skills in English
  • High degree of flexibility and adaptability to new environments 
  • An interest in micro-finance and basic understanding of what we do at Milaap 
  • Sense of responsibility and ability to work independently 
  • Minimum 6 months commitment 
  • Minimum 21 years of age 
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite and web tools (Gmail, Skype, WordPress, etc.) 
  • Proficiency in one or more of the following languages is a plus: Hindi, Kannada, Tamil and Marathi
  • Candidate must preferably be a graduate or a post graduate.

Benefits
The Fellows will be paid a stipend on a monthly basis. However, they are expected to cover for their visa, flight tickets, and medical insurance.
