Product Designer at  SocialCops

Socialcops logo

Title

Product Designer

Location

Delhi, India

Commitment
Full-time

Background
SocialCops exists for the sole purpose of driving decisions that matter through data - helping girls find the safest route home, helping a state government allocate healthcare budgets among many.

Their decision-making platform is used by over 150 organizations in 18 countries – by mayors to decide budget allocations, by philanthropic organizations to decide strategic investments, by governments to decide sanitation interventions and by nonprofits to decide on disaster relief measures.

As a product designer in a design-driven company, you will be envisioning the future. The world is changing, and SocialCops needs its UI/UX team to lead the way into the future of design. The team believes that technology only lives up to its promise when it is well designed. To that end, they adapt systems and technology to human behaviour.

Role & Responsibilities
As a product designer at SocialCops, you’ll be envisioning the product future – speaking to users to understand what you need to work on, defining what the solutions will be, and working with the engineering team to make them real! It is a good sign if you’re interested in learning to code, or are already pretty good with front end code :-)
  • The decision making platform is used by 7th class pass Marathi speaking women to collect data from the remotest of locations for local nonprofits. You will be building new design paradigms for a population that has never used a smartphone or is embracing technology for the first time.
  • The decision making platform is also used by heads of state governments to make decisions about where to allocate funding to improve healthcare or build infrastructure. Most of these decision makers don't have time to process millions of data points. They need one simple visualization to tell them the story hidden in data. Now you're designing a platform that can help anyone create these visualizations.
  • They deal with multiple user groups, a fast growing company size, limited development resource and fast shipping rates. This means that you'll be working closely with the Business, Customer Success, Product and Engineering teams, always communicating with them to make holistic decisions.

Benefits
In 1 month, you will
  • Understand users and the problems being solved
  • Immerse yourself in the product and identify elements to redesign
  • Visit customers/users (even 7th class Marathi speaking women) and translate your learnings into materials to share with the rest of the team
  • See your features go live
In 3 months, you will
  • Take on a complex aspect of the platform and design it from start to end
  • Work on challenging problems that haven't been solved before by anyone, such as the building easiest way to build village level maps or the most intuitive way for an illiterate user to navigate a smartphone app
  • Work with engineering to take features from nonexistent to deployed
  • Grow your design team (depending on your interests) or participate on our behalf in the design community
In 6 months (and beyond), you will
  • Begin leading design strategy for major aspects of the product
  • Hire and mentor other designers
  • Share your experiences with design to drive decision making within the community
