Background
Development Alternatives (DA), is the world's first social enterprise dedicated to sustainable development, is a research and action organisation striving to deliver socially equitable, environmentally sound and economically scalable development outcomes. DA’s green technology innovations for habitat, water, energy and waste management, which deliver basic needs and generate sustainable livelihoods, have reduced poverty and rejuvenated natural ecosystems in the most backward regions of India.

They are looking for 3 project assistants/volunteers for their Decentralized Waste Management Program on an urgent basis.

Role & Responsibilites
  • Mobilize people at various locations and influence their behavior towards waste recycling
  • Area Scanning : Conduct door to door survey in 3 locations of Delhi and Gurgaon
    • Site 1 : Delhi (Saraswati Vihar, Pitampura), Delhi (Near by Pitampura metro station - Red line)
    • Site 2 : Retreat Apartments, Gurgaon (Near By Huda City metro Station)
    • Site 3 : Preferably New Gurgaon 
  • Frequent site visits to Build association with RWA members and residents
  • Conduct sessions of different issues of waste management, waste segregation and recycling
  • Involve people to recycle waste within the society through pit composting or individual composting
  • Identify volunteers in the society and involve them in various tasks 
  • Build capacity of local gardeners, waste pickers, RWA members, residents and near by school on waste recycling
  • Provide Hand holding support to the residents
  • Conduct innovative events and manage site logistics
  • Documentation of the various events and on- site actions
  • Telephonic follow ups from the residents
  • Ensure the sustainability of the project
  • Provide support in desk work, documentation and other project deliverables

Suitable timings for the project:
  • Preferably morning (6-9 am)and evening timings (5-8pm), sometimes afternoon / routine day timings as well
  • Sundays will be occupied as and when required for the project need (as these are the societies where majority of people are working and will be available on saturdays and mostly on sundays)
  • 5 days a week (3 site visits and 1 official visit) - tentative

Prerequisites
  • Committed and willing college students who are willing to work on part-time basis will be preferred. (However, anyone who is out of college and is free and willing to work can also apply) 
  • Smart, interactive, passionate and willing to work at ground with patience
  • Able to build association and comfort level with the residents
  • Share positive vibes within the society
  • Able to handle and respond to crisis ,wisely and with dignity
  • Committed to the project
  • Capacity to deliver the expected output on measurable grounds

Compensation & Benefits
  • INR 15,000 (fifteen thousand a month)
  • DA will also provide a certificate based on performance review at the end of their term.
  • Office cab will be provided for site visits (depending on the genuine need and considerable distance of the person to the project location)
