Background
Happy Hands was established in 2009 as a non-profit with a view to revive and preserve traditional arts by engaging rural and urban youth, and restoring dignity in crafts practice. Its mission is to empower artisans, revive and preserve the traditional arts, crafts and culture of Indian tribes and to promote heritage education amidst youth. 

Happy Hands aims to: 
  • Empower artisans through building skill, and enterprise leadership, and encourage networking with urban masses; in addition to fostering the growth of young artists through Folk Art Learning Centers. 
  • Promote the heritage education through traveling museum exhibits, workshops and learning-oriented sessions/fellowships with i) schoolchildren, ii) college students, iii) young professionals 
  • Engage the public in folk/tribal arts to build value for the “handmade” 
  • Build collaborative platforms for the corporate, rural, and urban individuals to champion social change through the arts 
  • Enable artisans to create better quality and well designed products for the domestic and international market 

The Storytellers Collective (TSC) is a community-arts program which involves recruiting and training 10 young students from colleges / universities as 'Educators' through an in-depth apprenticeship training under Master Artisans; the development of an 8-month curriculum based on traditional storytelling which would be implemented across various shelter homes, community school centres for at-risk children and youth (students); and building a repertoire of visual narratives which have a social or cultural relevance to the communities to which the students belong and those which can be developed into effective educational aids.

This is a project under the Youth Arts, Community and Transformation (ACT) program of Happy Hands Foundation, and is being supported by the Sonya Grewal Foundation.

Roles & Responsibilites
  • Teach an Indian folk narrative art form to the children
  • Help children understand storytelling, and story creation techniques
  • Conduct story-writing sessions
  • Conduct art sessions
  • Help children develop their own graphic-novel storybook
  • Enable children/ young adults build creative confidence
  • Participate in the Apprenticeship Training Programme, workshops and monthly review meets

Prerequisites
The criteria to be eligible for the TSC Programme are:
  • A recognised undergraduate or postgraduate degree in any discipline
  • Between 18 - 29 years of age. 
  • Should be an artist (new/emerging artist)
  • Proficient in written and verbal communication skills (both English and Hindi).
The Programme promotes diversity and applicants from all areas of specialisation are encouraged to apply.

Compensation
Youth Educators will be a part of all expenses paid Apprenticeship Training Programme in Cheriyal Storytelling Tradition of Andhra Pradesh. Educators would be trained over a 10-day program by Master Artists in art and storytelling techniques, and this would be a unique opportunity to learn, and engage with art. 
They will also be provided a basic stipend during the Teaching Period to cover travelling expenses and a recommendation letter from partner organisation and Happy Hands Foundation.
